Course Overview:
Introduction to Nail Care: This module provides an overview of nail anatomy, common nail conditions, and basic nail care practices. Students will learn about the importance of hygiene, sanitation, and safety in nail care procedures.
Nail Tools and Products: Students will be introduced to essential nail tools, equipment, and products used in nail care and design. Topics include nail files, buffers, cuticle tools, nail polishes, gels, acrylics, and nail art supplies.
Nail Health and Sanitation: Emphasis will be placed on maintaining nail health and hygiene standards in the salon environment. Students will learn proper sanitization protocols, disinfection techniques, and client safety measures.
Manicure Techniques: This module covers the step-by-step process of performing a professional manicure, including nail shaping, cuticle care, exfoliation, massage, and nail polishing. Students will practice various manicure techniques to enhance the appearance and health of the nails and hands.
Pedicure Techniques: Students will learn how to perform a professional pedicure, focusing on foot soaking, callus removal, nail trimming, cuticle care, massage, and nail polishing. Special attention will be given to addressing common foot concerns and providing relaxation and rejuvenation for clients.
Nail Extension Services: This module introduces students to nail extension techniques using acrylics, gels, or other artificial nail systems. Topics include nail tip application, sculpting, overlaying, and maintenance procedures.
Nail Art and Design: Students will explore a variety of nail art techniques, including freehand painting, stamping, decals, embellishments, and 3D nail art. Emphasis will be placed on creativity, precision, and attention to detail in creating unique and artistic nail designs.
Nail Polish Application: This module focuses on the application of nail polish, including proper polishing techniques, color selection, and achieving smooth and even coverage. Students will learn how to create traditional manicures, French manicures, and trendy nail polish designs.
Nail Health and Safety Practices: Students will learn about common nail disorders, infections, and contraindications for nail services. They will also gain knowledge of safety precautions, emergency procedures, and client consultation techniques.
Client Consultation and Communication: This module emphasizes the importance of effective communication and client consultation skills in understanding client preferences, needs, and expectations for nail care services.
Salon Management and Professionalism: Students will learn about salon management principles, including appointment scheduling, retail sales, inventory management, and customer service. Additionally, they will develop professionalism, ethics, and interpersonal skills necessary for success in the beauty industry.
Practical Training and Workshops: Hands-on practice sessions and workshops are integrated throughout the course to reinforce theoretical knowledge and develop practical skills. Students will have the opportunity to work on live models and build their confidence in performing nail care and design services.
Upon completion of the Nail Care and Design course at Sedney Institute of Technical and Vocational Training, students will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to pursue a rewarding career as a professional nail technician in various salon and spa settings.
